BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Department of Music will present the Wind Symphony and the University Band in concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 19, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature works by Sousa, Pich, Holst and Grainger performed by the Wind Symphony, as well as music by Margolis, Sparke, LaPlante, Oare and King to be performed by the University Band.
鈥淭his performance features music by a variety of composers, including our own Dylan Pich, saxophonist and senior music education major,鈥 said Dr. Brian Hopwood, professor of music and director of instrumental studies. 鈥淒ylan will lead the Wind Symphony through his own original work 鈥榁illage Suite鈥 as a culminating part of his Honors Capstone Project.鈥
The concert will open with the University Band, which is in its fifth year of performing. The ensemble consists of non-music majors from across campus, community members, music majors performing on secondary instruments and a few area high school students. The ensemble is led by Hopwood along with student conductor and senior music education major, Austin Bryant.
The Wind Symphony, 欧美视频鈥檚 premier instrumental ensemble, will open with John Philip Sousa鈥檚 well-known 鈥淪emper Fidelis鈥 (always faithful). Also on the program is a short musical tone poem titled, 鈥淒usk.鈥 Gustav Holst鈥檚 wind band repertoire cornerstone, 鈥淪econd Suite in F, Op. 28 No. 2鈥 is based entirely on material from folk songs and morris dances and will feature a variety of soloists during the four-movement work, including professor of music, Dr. Terri Wehmeyer, on euphonium.
