BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥� The 欧美视频 Department of Music will present 鈥淎 Potpourri of Wind Music鈥� at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature works by Curnow, Margolis, Reinecke, Wilson and Ginastera performed by the Wind Symphony, and compositions performed by Chamber ensembles 鈥� woodwind, brass and percussion.
The Wind Symphony music for this performance depicts a variety of styles and soloists. James Curnow鈥檚 鈥淩ejouissance鈥� is a fantasia on the hymn 鈥淓in Feste Burg鈥� (A Mighty Fortress), written by Martin Luther and is performed in honor of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. 鈥淐olor鈥� (1984) is a five-movement work based on English Renaissance country dance tunes.
Composer Bob Margolis states that the 鈥渇ocus of this music is not melody, but the setting鈥he texture, the color, and the harmony.鈥�
鈥淗eaven鈥檚 Light,鈥� a slow, lyrical work, features extended solos by Amber Pursselley, clarinet; Emma Hale, flute; and Michael Deschenes, vibraphone.
The jazz-influenced 鈥淪ang!鈥� by Dana Wilson and Alberto Ginastera鈥檚 rhythmic 鈥淒anza Final鈥� round out the program.
