BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥� The 欧美视频 Speaking Bearcats opened the 2018-2019
traveling season by being crowned the overall champion at the Missouri Mule/Dale Carnegie
Swing speech and debate tournaments Oct. 19-21, hosted by the University of Central
Missouri in Warrensburg.
Squaring off against teams from 22 other colleges and universities, the team won the
overall individual event sweepstakes championships of both tournaments and the overall
combined sweepstakes championships of both.
鈥淲e were pleased by the results and the hard work our team put in to achieve them,鈥�
said Dr. David Bailey, director of forensics. 鈥淪wing tournaments are a challenge.
The students do two full days (approximately 12-13 hours) of competition, and then
get up early on the third day to do it again. It represents a great chance for our
young team to get some vital competitive experience over the course of three days.鈥�
Speaking Bearcats鈥� Missouri Mule tournament highlights included:
- Christina Foltz (sophomore) 鈥� first place in novice parliamentary debate championship (with freshman Mitchell
Huston); sixth in parliamentary debate speaker awards; top novice in duo interpretation
(with sophomore Alexa Bell); sixth in dramatic interpretation.
- Jeffrey Metzler (junior) 鈥� quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with junior Mariah Gilmore); fourth in
duo interpretation (with freshman Mitchell Huston).
- Mitchell Huston (freshman) 鈥� third in parliamentary debate speaker awards; fourth in duo interpretation (with
junior Jeffrey Metzler); third in duo interpretation (with junior Mariah Gilmore).
- Mikayla Throne (senior) 鈥� champion in program of oral interpretation; champion in duo interpretation (with
sophomore Katelyn Bloom); semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with freshman Spencer
VanSickle); sixth in after-dinner speaking; fourth place in impromptu speaking; second
place in informative speaking; second place in prose interpretation; first in the
Pentathlon competition.
- Marisa Mayo (senior) 鈥� champion in impromptu speaking; quarterfinalist in public forum debate (with senior
Andrew DeShon); second place in the open division of public forum speaker awards;
fourth in after-dinner speaking; fourth in extemporaneous speaking; second place in
persuasive speaking; third place in informative speaking; second place in the Pentathlon
competition.
- Alexa Bell (sophomore) 鈥� third place in public forum speaker awards; top novice in duo interpretation (with
Foltz); top novice in program of oral interpretation; sixth place in program of oral
interpretation.
- Abbie Andrews (sophomore) 鈥� fifth place in the novice division of public forum.
- Katelyn Bloom (sophomore) 鈥� champion in duo interpretation (with senior Mikayla Throne); sixth place in the
open division of public forum speaker awards.
- Turner McCrackin (junior) 鈥� top novice in impromptu speaking.
- Jessica Paxton (freshman) 鈥� top novice in after-dinner speaking; third in after-dinner speaking.
- Breanna Prater (sophomore) 鈥� sixth place in extemporaneous speaking; fifth place in communication analysis.
- Andrew DeShon (senior) 鈥� quarterfinalist in public forum debate (with senior Marisa Mayo); fifth place in
extemporaneous speaking; sixth place in communication analysis; fourth place in persuasive
speaking; fourth place in informative speaking; fifth place in the Pentathlon competition.
- Mariah Gilmore (junior) 鈥� third place in duo interpretation (with freshman Mitchell Huston); sixth place in
impromptu speaking.
- Autumn Lyon (freshman) 鈥� fifth place in poetry interpretation.

- Evan Kirksey (sophomore) 鈥� top novice in persuasion; third place in persuasive speaking.
- Bell 鈥� top novice in after-dinner speaking; top novice in duo interpretation (with Foltz);

- Huston 鈥� top novice in impromptu; sixth place in duo interpretation (with Gilmore); second
place in duo interpretation (with Metzler.)

- Prater 鈥� fourth in communication analysis; fourth in persuasive speaking; fourth place in
extemporaneous speaking; sixth in after-dinner speaking; fourth place in the Pentathlon
competition.
- DeShon 鈥� fifth place in communication analysis; sixth in informative speaking; second in
impromptu speaking; fifth place in the Pentathlon competition.
- Throne 鈥� champion in after-dinner speaking; fifth place in program of oral interpretation;
third place in duo interpretation (with Bloom); fifth in informative speaking; second
in prose interpretation; third in impromptu speaking; second place in the Pentathlon
competition.
- Metzler 鈥� second place in persuasive speaking; second in duo interpretation (with Huston).
- Mayo 鈥� champion in persuasive speaking; second place in extemporaneous speaking; second
in after-dinner speaking; third place in informative speaking; first in impromptu
speaking; champion in the Pentathlon competition.
- Gilmore 鈥� sixth place in duo interpretation (with Huston).
- Bloom 鈥� third place in duo interpretation (with Throne).
- Paxton 鈥� fourth place in dramatic interpretation.
