欧美视频's Wind Symphony presents 'Winds and Friends'

BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Department of Music will present 鈥淲inds and Friends,鈥 featuring the 欧美视频 Wind Symphony, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.

Conducted by Dr. Brian K. Hopwood, professor of music and director of instrumental studies, the Wind Symphony will perform works by Denzi, Persichetti, Arnold, Allen, Sparke and Sousa. Guest ensemble will be the Marshfield High School Wind Symphony 鈥 Lori Hutton, conductor.

The Wind Symphony will open with an arrangement of Luigi Denzi鈥檚 energetic and brilliant 鈥淔uniculi-Funicula,鈥 and continues with a classic work 鈥 鈥淧ageant鈥 鈥 by American composer, Vincent Persichetti. 鈥淧ageant鈥 was written on a commission and was so successful that during the 1955-56 season, it received 2,000 performances.

Malcolm Arnold鈥檚 鈥淟ittle Suite for Brass,鈥 is a three-movement work arranged for wind band by the late John Paynter. 鈥淧astime with Good Company鈥 was written by a young 16th century prince 鈥 later known as King Henry VII 鈥 and scored for wind band by British composer Philip Sparke. Featured performers are Emma Hale and Hannah Mayfield on flute and alto flute, and Miranda Applegate and Caroline Parker on clarinet.

The Wind Symphony will also perform Fred Allen鈥檚 chorale prelude arrangement of one of the world鈥檚 most-beloved hymn tunes, 鈥淎bide with Me.鈥

The 鈥淯.S. Field Artillery,鈥 by John Philip Sousa, will be performed jointly by both bands and will conclude the concert.

The performance is free and open to the public.
