欧美视频 will host its first visiting artist exhibit for the 2016-2017 academic year when the works of Russell Horton will be featured from Aug. 22 through Sept. 16 at the Driskill Art Gallery on the Bolivar campus.

A native New Englander, Horton is a landscape artist currently living in the Kansas City metro area. His paintings reflect a sense of solitude and contemplation while looking over the vast horizons.

鈥淢y most recent work examines the landscape of the prairie and the bottomlands along the Missouri River,鈥� Horton said in a statement. 鈥淥bservation, photo reference, color studies and memory all play a role in my studio practice.

鈥淎s with earlier works, the landscapes are unpeopled, allowing the viewer to contemplate the scene without distraction.鈥�

Horton currently teaches painting and drawing at Baker University and taught foundations at Emporia State University. His work has been exhibited as part of the Partners of the Americas cultural exchange program, as well as in private collections throughout New England, New York, Washington D.C., Kansas City, Biloxi, Miss., and Seattle. His work also is part of a collection of the Clemson University鈥檚 Rudolph E. Lee Gallery.

Horton will host a question and answer session about himself and his work during a reception from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 25.
