BOLIVAR, Mo. — The ŷƵ Speaking Bearcats had a successful Fall Break,
bringing home second- and third-place finishes from the University of Central Missouri
“Missouri Mule” and “Dale Carnegie” swing speech and debate tournaments Oct. 14-16.
Competing against teams from 24 different colleges and universities, ŷƵ captured
second place in overall team sweepstakes for the first half of the swing tournament
(Oct. 14-15) and third place in overall combined sweepstakes for the weekend.
Missouri Mule individual results
- Kensey Slone (junior) and Tiana Brownen (junior) – first place in public forum debate
- Jeffrey Metzler (freshman) and Mariah Gilmore (freshman) – semifinalists in novice
public forum debate
- Tiana Brownen – first place in both communication analysis and persuasive speaking;
sixth place in extemporaneous speaking; fourth in impromptu
- Reece Tabor (junior) – second place in communication analysis; fourth place in persuasion
- Mikayla Throne (sophomore) – third place in informative; sixth place in program of
oral interpretation; sixth place in impromptu. These results helped her win first
place in individual events pentathlon for the first half of the swing.
- Skyler Sanzotera (sophomore) – sixth place in informative speaking
- Marisa Mayo (sophomore) – third place in persuasion; fifth place in informative
