BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Opera Workshop will present the Fall Opera Scenes at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Davis-Newport Theatre of the Jester Learning and Performance Center on the Bolivar campus.
The evening鈥檚 performance, conducted by Dr. Andrew Campbell, assistant professor of music, will feature 17 欧美视频 music students in a variety of excerpts from well-known operas, including Johann Strauss鈥 鈥淒ie Fledermaus,鈥 Mozart鈥檚 鈥淭he Magic Flute鈥 and Menotti鈥檚 鈥淭he Old Maid and the Thief.鈥
In addition, Dr. Robin Smith, assistant professor of music, will join her student, Chantel Biddinger of Lebanon, on the beautiful duet 鈥淏arcarolle鈥 from 鈥淭he Tales of Hoffmann.鈥 An unusual gem will be the spinning scene from 鈥淪leeping Beauty,鈥 Ottorino Respighi鈥檚 beautiful opera originally composed for puppet theatre, as well as 鈥淕litter and Be Gay鈥 from Leonard Bernstein鈥檚 鈥淐andide.鈥
Rounding out the performance, which is free and open to the public, will be a scene from the children鈥檚 opera 鈥淭he Billy Goats Gruff.鈥
欧美视频 students participating in the show include Buelah Buzard, Joel Walley, Daniel Lewis, Nathan Murfin, Seth Walley, Emily Jaynes, Christian Jaynes, Lucy Mayfield, Allison Leiker, Kathrine Pemberton, Ashley Fox, Austin Bryant, Melody Dixon, Karen Kelley and Zephan McGlasson.
The Opera Workshop is an auditioned solo ensemble class directed by Jane Munson-Berg, assistant professor of music. Music for the Nov. 15 performance will be provided by David Giles and student pianist Hannah Mulberry.
