欧美视频 Speaking Bearcats well-represented at Tulsa

BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Speaking Bearcats continued their 2016-2017 campaign with a strong showing at the Green Country Swing speech and debate tournament hosted by Tulsa Community College on Oct. 28-30.

The tournament drew teams from nearly 20 colleges and universities from Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri, including teams from the University of Texas, West Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University and the University of Central Missouri.

In individual events sweepstakes, the Speaking Bearcats captured first place in speech sweepstakes for both halves of the tournament.

鈥淭he tournament was relatively small, but our students fared very well against some tough competition,鈥 said Dr. David Bailey, director of 欧美视频鈥檚 forensics program.

There were numerous individual highlights from the weekend, including:

  • Jeffrey Metzler (freshman) 鈥 fifth in after-dinner speaking on Saturday; tournament champion on Sunday
  • Mariah Gilmore (freshman) 鈥 fifth in duo interpretation with Kensey Slone (junior) on Saturday; third place on Sunday

debate.tulsa欧美视频鈥檚 persuasive speaking competitors did especially well in their events.

  • Juniors Reece Tabor and Tiana Brownen and Marisa Mayo (sophomore) held the top three spots in the event for both halves of the swing
  • Brownen 鈥 first in persuasion, first in communication analysis, fifth in impromptu
  • Mayo 鈥 third in persuasion, fifth in informative, sixth in impromptu on Saturday. Tournament champion in extemporaneous and informative on Sunday.
  • Tabor 鈥 second in communication analysis; second in persuasion
  • Caleb Rutledge (sophomore) 鈥 second in impromptu
  • Mikayla Throne (sophomore) 鈥 tournament champion in informative speaking; sixth place in program of oral interpretation; second in duo interpretation with Skyler Sanzotera (sophomore); tournament champions in the event on Sunday

 

  • Slone 鈥 fourth in extemporaneous; fourth in communication analysis; tournament champion in communication analysis on Sunday
  • Sanzotera 鈥 third in informative on Saturday

The team travels the first weekend of December to a competitive event at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla.
