Homeschool Health Fair returns to Springfield on April 28

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Mercy College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Å·ÃÀÊÓÆµ is hosting the annual Homeschool Health and Science Exploration Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the College in Springfield.

Pre-registration is not required for this free event for homeschooled students in southwest Missouri. Highlights of the fair will include:

  • Various health screenings and services, including height, weight, body-mass index and blood pressure measurements; hearing and vision testing; dental screenings; flu vaccinations (if available); and scoliosis screenings, recommended for grades 4-9 (It is recommended for girls to wear a sports bra or bathing suit under their top for the scoliosis screening.);
  • Interactive experiences hosted by Å·ÃÀÊÓÆµ biology faculty for all age groups in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology and chemistry;
  • Education on such topics as asthma; hand washing and illness prevention; diabetes and obesity; nutrition and healthy eating; sports and physical activity; and kids’ safety; and
  • Demonstration of the new radiology simulation room.
