BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Department of Music will present a
faculty saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Meyer Recital Hall of
Casebolt Music Center on the Bolivar campus.
Dr. Jeffrey Waters, professor of music and dean of the Geneva Casebolt College of Music, Arts and Letters at 欧美视频, is in his 30th year on the 欧美视频 music faculty.
The program will feature four diverse works for the alto saxophone by composers Maurice Whitney, Don Freund, J.S. Bach and Jacques Ibert. Waters will be accompanied by Dr. Melinda Jones, professor of music, on piano. He also will be joined by 11 professional colleagues on wind and string instruments on Ibert鈥檚 鈥淐oncertino da Camera,鈥 one of the most celebrated solo works for saxophone from the mid-20th century.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a special treat for me, and I hope, the audience to experience the Ibert 鈥楥oncertino鈥 in its original format, which calls for the 11-piece instrumental ensemble accompaniment,鈥 Waters said. 鈥淚t is an exciting and virtuosic work, and this will be the first time I have had an opportunity to perform it in this format.鈥
The program will open with Whitney鈥檚 鈥淩umba,鈥 which will be followed by Freund鈥檚 fresh and erratic 鈥淪ky Scrapings,鈥 written for acclaimed saxophonist Eugene Rousseau in 1997. A transcription for saxophone of Bach鈥檚 鈥淪onata in E Major,鈥 originally for flute, will pay homage to the great Baroque composer. Ibert鈥檚 鈥淐oncertino鈥 will be the finale.
