Speaking Bearcats dominate in Fall season finale

BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Speaking Bearcats finished the fall portion of their season with a dominating performance at the Cameron Christmas Classic on Dec. 1-2 at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla.

The Speaking Bearcats finished first in overall sweepstakes, second in debate sweepstakes and first in individual events sweepstakes. 欧美视频 competed against 20 universities from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.

Katelyn Bloom (freshman) 鈥 Novice division champion in international public debate

Breanna Prater (freshman) 鈥 Varsity division champion in international public debate

Jeffrey Metzler (sophomore) 鈥 Semifinalist and first-place speaker in public debate

Mariah Gilmore (sophomore) 鈥 Quarterfinalist in public debate

Marisa Mayo (junior) 鈥 Third place in varsity international public debate speaker awards

Tiana Brownen and Reece Tabor (seniors) 鈥 Second place in parliamentary debate

Andrew DeShon (junior) 鈥 Third-place speaker in open parliamentary debate in just his second tournament

In individual events, the Speaking Bearcats took first place in eight of the 11 events, as well as the top three spots in the pentathlon competition. In addition, 欧美视频 brought home six top novice awards won by first-year competitors.

Individual highlights:

Mikayla Throne (junior) 鈥 Champion in prose interpretation; champion in program of oral interpretation; champion in duo with Jordan Martin (freshman); third place in the overall pentathlon competition

Bloom 鈥 Champion (and top novice) in poetry; sixth place in prose; second place in duo with Tabor

Martin 鈥 Fifth place (and top novice) in prose; second place (and top novice) in program of oral interpretation; second place (and top novice) in dramatic interpretation.

Tabor 鈥 Champion in persuasive speaking; champion in informative speaking; second place in duo with Bloom; second place in communication analysis; second place in the overall pentathlon competition

Brownen 鈥 Champion in communication analysis; champion in impromptu speaking; third place in extemporaneous speaking; second place in persuasion; champion in pentathlon competition

Mayo 鈥 Second place in extemporaneous; third place in informative; third place in after-dinner speaking; fourth place in impromptu speaking

Prater 鈥 Fifth place in extemporaneous speaking; fourth place (and top novice) in persuasion; third place in impromptu; top novice in communication analysis

Gilmore 鈥 Semifinalist in impromptu speaking

DeShon 鈥 Fourth place in informative speaking

The Speaking Bearcats will head to Webster University in St. Louis for the 鈥淕orlok Gala鈥 on Jan. 26-28, then will travel to Truman State University for the Missouri Association of Forensics Activities State Championships in mid-February before wrapping up their season at the Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament in mid-March at Tennessee State University in Nashville.
