The ŷƵ Concert Choir and Bolivar Community Chorus present George Frederic Handel’s “Messiah” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1 in Pike Auditorium on the ŷƵ campus.
“Messiah” was composed in 1741 and was first performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742. While the work did not receive immediate accolades, it has since become one of the most commonly performed oratorios in Western music.
The text Handel used for this masterpiece is entirely compiled of scripture and the musical demands include a full orchestra, soloists and chorus. Student soloists will be featured in addition to a full orchestra and choir, in keeping with the composer’s original intention.
The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the ŷƵ Music Office at (417) 328-1644.
