BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The Chorale of 欧美视频 will be in concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.
Under the direction of Dr. Jim Tarrant, professor of music and director of choral studies at 欧美视频, the Chorale will present a program of short major works by Johannes Brahms and Morten Lauridsen, accompanied by Vicky Claborne of Springfield. The repertoire consists of Brahms鈥 鈥淣盲nie (Opus 82)鈥 and 鈥淪chicksalslied (Opus 54)鈥 and three settings from Lauridsen鈥檚 鈥淣octurnes.鈥
鈥淯nlike many concerts, this program has none of the expected barn burners nor show stoppers,鈥 Tarrant said, 鈥渞ather, it will be an evening of exquisite choral poetry. These two composers can certainly be mentioned in the same breath in terms of choral perfection.鈥
The 27-member Chorale is the premiere choral ensemble of the university and has performed extensively across the state, the country and the world. This selectively auditioned ensemble performs regularly as well for major music education and denominational conventions. In addition to numerous appearances across the state each year at schools, churches and major state gatherings, the Chorale engages in performances tours overseas.
