Campbell featured in faculty voice recital on April 12

BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥� The 欧美视频 Department of Music will present Dr. Andrew Campbell, professor of music, in a faculty voice recital at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in the Jane A. Meyer Recital Hall.

Campbell, who will be accompanied on piano by department chair Dr. Robert Carney, will perform 鈥淒ear Theo,鈥� a song cycle by modern composer Ben Moore. The text is entirely comprised of letters from Vincent van Gogh to his brother, Theo, who ran a successful art gallery and provided unfailing financial support to Vincent throughout his career. It is a compelling and fascinating piece of music that will draw the listener into the pains and joys in the heart and mind of van Gogh.

Other works Campbell will perform include: four selections by Russian composer Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky; as well as 鈥淎irs chant茅s,鈥� a short, four-movement song cycle, which includes a romantic song, pastoral song, serious song and lively song by Francis Poulenc.

Four selections by recording artist Rufus Wainwright from his cycle, 鈥淪ongs for Lulu,鈥� were composed in honor of the composer鈥檚 mother, who passed from a rare form of cancer called clear cell sarcoma. It is a representation of what the composer describes as 鈥渢he vortex of what so far has been the darkest and brightest time of my life.鈥�
