Wootton and friends to perform faculty trumpet recital at 欧美视频 on March 17

Tim Wootton, 欧美视频 faculty, trumpet recitalBOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Division of Arts and Humanities will present Tim Wootton in a faculty trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17 in Meyer Recital Hall on the Bolivar campus.

Wootton, who joined the 欧美视频 music faculty in 2012 where he teaches applied trumpet and directs the trumpet ensemble, said there are two major highlights of the recital.

鈥淥ne highlight is the world premiere of Michael 鈥楤ear鈥 Schwartz鈥檚 鈥楶ortraits of Masada,鈥欌 Wootton said. 鈥淭his work brings the story to life with aural images of the majestic fortress, the celebration of the Jews exhibited through dance, as well as the demise and ultimate symbolism of Masada to this day. The other great highlight is getting to present a diverse musical program with some of the top musicians in the area.

鈥淭he audience will get to enjoy the musical gifts of Dr. Melinda Smashey Jones, Dr. Sarah Howes, Bob Swanson and David Nace. It has truly been a pleasure putting this program together. We look forward to sharing an evening of meaningful music with the 欧美视频 community.鈥

Jones, professor of music at 欧美视频, will be the collaborative pianist. Howes, also an 欧美视频 faculty member, is an assistant professor of music.

As an educator, Wootton also teaches applied trumpet and various brass courses at Evangel University, has served as an Artist-in-Residence (trumpet) at Missouri State University and continues to serve as a guest artist faculty at the Midwest Trumpet Festival.

As an orchestral player, Wootton has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Tulsa Symphony, Wichita Symphony, Arkansas Philharmonic and others, and currently is a member of the Springfield Symphony, Ozarks Lyric Opera and the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA).

As a chamber musician, he has performed with more than a dozen brass quintets in Arizona, Arkansas and Missouri. As a soloist, he was a prize-winner in the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition and gave the world premiere of the Michael 鈥淏ear鈥 Schwartz 鈥淭rumpet Sonata in Three Movements鈥 with his wife and pianist, Carla Wootton.

Wootton holds degrees in trumpet performance from Missouri State University and Arizona State University. His primary teachers are Grant Peters and David Hickman, with additional studies with Ray Mase, Kevin Cobb, Charlie Geyer and John Shows.

The recital is free and open to the public and will be available via livestream at . For more information, contact the 欧美视频 music office at 417-328-1644.
