欧美视频鈥檚 Wind Symphony to present concert on March 15

BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Division of Arts and Humanities will present the Wind Symphony in concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 15 in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.

Under the direction of Jared Brown, the Wind Symphony will feature compositions spanning more than a century of wind band literature.

鈥淪econd Suite in F,鈥 a staple of band literature, opens the concert, and is a lush setting of the folk tune 鈥淎ll the Pretty Little Horses.鈥 鈥淟ightning Field鈥 is an energetic work that takes its name from an expansive work of art by Walter de Maria. The dramatic tone poem, 鈥淭hey Shall Run and Be Free,鈥 follows with a musical depiction of a daring journey of the Underground Railroad. Midwest composer Dana Wilson鈥檚 鈥淐olorado Peaks,鈥 with its relentless pulse and syncopation, suggests the rugged and persistent climb up a mountain.

The final number, 鈥淔amishius Fantasticus鈥 by Michael Markowski is intended to be a concert closer, or a 鈥淭hat鈥檚 All Folks!,鈥 honoring the 100th birthday of the late Looney Tunes director Chuck Jones.

The performance is free and open to the public.
