BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥� The 欧美视频 Division of Arts and Humanities will present the Wind Symphony in concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 15 in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.
Under the direction of Jared Brown, the Wind Symphony will feature compositions spanning more than a century of wind band literature.
鈥淪econd Suite in F,鈥� a staple of band literature, opens the concert, and is a lush setting of the folk tune 鈥淎ll the Pretty Little Horses.鈥� 鈥淟ightning Field鈥� is an energetic work that takes its name from an expansive work of art by Walter de Maria. The dramatic tone poem, 鈥淭hey Shall Run and Be Free,鈥� follows with a musical depiction of a daring journey of the Underground Railroad. Midwest composer Dana Wilson鈥檚 鈥淐olorado Peaks,鈥� with its relentless pulse and syncopation, suggests the rugged and persistent climb up a mountain.
The final number, 鈥淔amishius Fantasticus鈥� by Michael Markowski is intended to be a concert closer, or a 鈥淭hat鈥檚 All Folks!,鈥� honoring the 100th birthday of the late Looney Tunes director Chuck Jones.
The performance is free and open to the public.
