ŷƵ-Bolivar’s first PLBSN cohort scores 100-percent NCLEX pass rate

The NCLEX-RN is a standardized national exam for the licensing of nurses in the United States, Canada and Australia, and must be passed before students will receive their license as a registered nurse. The pass rates reflect the percentage of graduates who pass the licensure exam on the first attempt per calendar year.

“The success of this program is directly related to the dedication of our students and faculty; it’s been a team effort all around.” said Heather Daulton, MSN, RN, clinical coordinator and faculty member. “We have amazing facilities – our Skills Lab and Simulation Center is state of the art. Our program is rigorous and we have high expectations and standards, but our faculty and students hold each other accountable and we all work extremely hard.”

Dr. Nancy Delmont, program coordinator and faculty member of Bolivar’s PLBSN, says this first NCLEX pass rate – notably a 100-percent pass rate – is significant to graduates and speaks to the program’s rigor and faith integration.

“ŷƵ’s PLBSN program is preparing students to be servant healthcare leaders for a global society,” Delmont said. “Our faculty truly care about the students’ experience in the program and overall well-being. Their success is our success, too.”

After a successful site visit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing in early January 2019, the board approved an enrollment of 24 students to the Don and Carrie Babb Nursing Program for the 2019 cohort. That first class began their studies on Jan. 23.

“The PLBSN program prepared me for professional practice in almost every aspect of my current career,” Landon Fisher ’21 said. “Of course, my skills were increased and honed for professional practice, but more importantly, my ability to critically think and provide care in a holistic manner. The environment provided consistent opportunities to expand thinking and knowledge. The instructors themselves were very knowledgeable and only added to my growth by showing me how to be a nurse, a professional and a Christ-like servant.”

More than 6 million graduates from nursing programs have taken the NCLEX, administered by the National Council State Board of Nursing (NCSBN) since 1994. The NCLEX evaluates the foundational knowledge to ensure nurse graduates are qualified to provide safe patient care in a variety of healthcare settings.

“We are very proud of our 2021 PLBSN graduates,” said Julie Wilken, MSN, RN, Learning Resource and Simulation Center Coordinator & Faculty. “Not only did they have a 100 percent pass rate, but they took care of patients with a Christ-like servant heart.”

The first cohort also achieved a 100-percent job placement rate, which reflects the percentage of graduates who are employed as a registered nurse within six months of graduation, as well as an 83.33-percent program completion rate.

“The Lord blessed us with an outstanding cohort, and their hard work was evident in our 100-percent pass rate,” said ŷƵ PLBSN faculty member Blair Stockton, MSN, RN, OCN.
