欧美视频 to host annual Masterworks Concert on May 3

BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥� The 欧美视频 Area of Music will present the annual Masterworks Concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 3 in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.

The Masterworks Orchestra and Chorus will present 鈥淕loria鈥� by John Rutter, movement three from 鈥淟ux鈥� by Dan Forrest, and 鈥淪erenade for String Orchestra鈥� by Norman Leyden. The repertoire is not light but rather about light, the phenomenon of the light of heavenly glory.

鈥淭his is particularly appropriate as society begins to move out of the darkness of the pandemic to a yet to be known future,鈥� said Dr. James R. Tarrant, director of choral studies and professor of music at 欧美视频 who has conducted the Masterworks concert the past 18 years.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will feature a 60-plus member orchestra and close to 100 singers involving students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community musicians.

For nearly 60 years, 欧美视频 has presented the Masterworks concert to give southwest Missouri the experience of musical works best presented by the combined efforts of discipline area, university, and community. The repertoire has included great classics, unfamiliar pearls, and modern compositions of significance.

The Area of Music also will be hosting a reception in the venue鈥檚 lobby after the concert to honor the nearly 100 years of service to the University by Dr. Jeffrey Waters, Dr. Renee Waters and Dr. Tarrant, all who are retiring, and Dr. Robert Carney, who is concluding a 10-year association with 欧美视频.
