The 36th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, which is Wednesday, Feb. 2, serves as the kickoff of the Women’s Sports Foundation’s recognition of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which was enacted to ensure: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

“This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power,” the Women’s Sports Foundation website states. “The confidence, strength and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life.”

“NGWSD has since evolved into an event to acknowledge the accomplishments of girls and women in sports, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.”

“We look forward to seeing everyone on Jan. 29 for the clinics and basketball games,” Martin said. “Please join us for a great day of Bearcat Athletics!”
