ŷƵ announces Homecoming king and queen for 2022

Gabriel Long and Savannah Garrison were announced as the 2022 ŷƵ Homecoming King and Queen at halftime of the Bearcats football game against William Jewell on Oct. 8. 

Students nominated five seniors as candidates for Homecoming King and five candidates for Homecoming Queen. 

Gabriel Long is an intercultural studies major from Lee’s Summit, Mo. He is the son of Vala and Phillip Long. After graduation, he plans to join a missions organization and move overseas.

"I am honored to be the king, but I don't think I did anything special to get here.” Long states, “It was really my friends who put me here, and I am extremely grateful to them for it."

Savannah Garrison is a nursing major from Springfield, Mo. She is the daughter of Michelle ’00 and Jeffery Garrison. After graduation, she is getting married to her fiancé Charles Phillips. She also plans to become a pediatric nurse or a mother-baby nurse.

"ŷƵ always has the best Homecoming week, and it was truly a surprising honor to win Queen,” recalled Garrison. “There were so many great candidates up there with us and that made it even more of an enjoyable week!"

King candidates

Tyler Bellmyer is a math education major from Bates City, Mo. He is the son of Amy ‘96 and Kevin Bellmyer. After graduation, he plans to become a high school math teacher and start a family.

Nathan MacLaughlin is an accounting major from Springfield, Mo. He is the son of Angela and Jeremy MacLaughlin. After graduation, he plans to marry his fiancée, Hanna Glasgow, and move to the Springfield area. He also plans on taking the CPA exam and working in a public accounting firm, using his skills to help businesses and individuals with tax-related issues.

Cole Kerby is a computer science and math major from Pleasant Hill, Mo. He is the son of Kara and Marc Kerby. After graduation, he plans to potentially pursue a master’s degree in mathematics and pursue a career in data science and machine learning.

Charles Phillips is a computer information science major from Raymore, Mo. He is the son of Patty and Chuck Phillips. After graduation, he plans to marry his fiancée, Savannah.

Queen candidates

Kelli Cahill is a youth ministry major from Miles City, Mont. She is the daughter of Michelle and Jeff Cahill. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school and become a licensed counselor.  

Hayley Hershenson is a vocal music education major from West Plains, Mo. She is the daughter of Sylvia and Bruce Hershenson. After graduation, she plans to teach and pursue a certification in music therapy.

Gabrielle Yung is an art education major from Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She is the daughter of Shannon and Helmer Jensen. After graduation, she and her husband plan to live in Kansas City for a few years and eventually move overseas and teach art abroad.

Brenna Allen is a nursing major from Moundville, Mo. She is the daughter of Dennis Allen and the late Jackie Allen. After graduation, she plans to pass the NCLEX and remain in the Bolivar area while becoming a labor and delivery nurse.

 

In addition, their peers have chosen princesses and princes for the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes.

Princes

Tyler Johnson is a freshman biology education major from Stockton, Mo. He is the son of Amy and Doug Johnson.

Noah Franklin is a sophomore exercise science major from Cobden, Ill. He is the son of Le Brittany and Josh Franklin.

Tyler Collinson is a junior web system and design major from Steelville, Mo. He is the son of Rebecca and Steven Collinson.

Princesses

Madison Mills is a freshman biology—pre-health major from Edmond, Okla. She is the daughter of Wendy and Cedric Mills.

Ashlynn Robinson is a sophomore exercise science major from Rogers, Ark. She is the daughter of Sara and Eric Robinson.

Lauren Burton is a junior social work major from Republic, Mo. She is the daughter of Stacey and David Burton.
