Speaking Bearcats open 2021-22 season with victory

Debate students sitting around a table.BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Speaking Bearcats opened their 2021-2022 season with an overall sweepstakes victory in the virtual Missouri Mule/Dale Carnegie Swing tournament on Oct. 15-16 hosted by the University of Central Missouri.

The Speaking Bearcats faced competition from 23 other colleges and universities in the online tournament, taking home top honors in the individual events in the Dale Carnegie Swing, as well as in the individual events combined for both the Missouri Mule/Dale Carnegie Swing.

鈥淚 am so proud of these bright young scholars for all of the dedication and hard work they have put into their events over the last few months,鈥 said Taylor Corlee, director of forensics and instructor of communication.

鈥淭hey have set the competition high this early and I am certain they will continue to do great work throughout the season.鈥

  • Jessica Paxton 鈥 Program of Oral Interpretation (first place); Dramatic interpretation (first place); Pentathlon (first place); Duo with partner Samantha Baldus (second place); Poetry (second place)
  • Samantha Baldus 鈥 Informative speaking (first place); Duo with partner Jessica Paxton (second place)
  • Lucy Martin 鈥 Parliamentary Debate (third in speaker points)
