BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 欧美视频鈥檚 theatre department will present the
regional premier of the musical 鈥淥verture鈥 at 7 p.m., March 5-7, with a matinee performance
at 2 p.m., March 8, in the Davis-Newport Theater on the Bolivar campus.
鈥淥verture,鈥 winner of the New York Music Festival鈥檚 Best of Fest award and voted Kansas City鈥檚 Best New Musical, is guaranteed to provide a night of entertainment, laughter and song. The story of 鈥淥verture鈥 is the story of the 1953-54 season of the Kansas City Philharmonic and its continued struggle to stay afloat.
As told through the character of Lily Brooks, 鈥淥verture鈥 follows her experiences selling tickets, meeting the maestro of the orchestra, Hans Schwieger, falling in love and dealing with loss. 鈥淥verture is filled with wonderful music, dancing and a beautiful love story.
鈥溾極verture鈥 is set in the city I grew up in, in one of my favorite places to be,鈥 said Elizabeth Coulter, a sophomore theatre major at 欧美视频, who is serving as choreographer, as well as portraying Inda Mae Beasley. 鈥淚 love the story. It鈥檚 all about music and what people find to be their inspiration.鈥
General admission tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children, $8 for alumni, senior citizens, 欧美视频 students and students at other universities. Tickets may be purchased at the 欧美视频 Theater Box Office between the hours of 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in the Jester Learning and Performance Center, online at www.sbuniv.edu/theatre, or by phone at (417) 328-1691.
