BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥� Dr. Bob Glasgow, professor of mathematics at 欧美视频, recently was the first guest on 鈥淭eaching Math Teaching,鈥� a new podcast produced by the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE).

The podcast series is designed to provide discussions of relevant topics from Mathematics Teacher Educators who serve in various roles.

鈥淒r. Dusty Jones, vice president for communications and outreach of AMTE, asked me to do the interview 鈥� and was one of the interviewers 鈥� because of his experiences as an undergraduate at 欧美视频 in the late 1990s and his knowledge of my situation as a mathematics educator in a mathematics department,鈥� said Glasgow, who鈥檚 interview is titled 鈥淓pisode 1: Lone Mathematics Educator in a Math Department.鈥�

鈥淚t was an interesting experience, but I felt pretty at ease talking to Dusty, since he is one of my former students who knows what we are about at 欧美视频. The questions I was asked were designed to give newer faculty in positions like mine (being a lone mathematics educator in a mathematics department) some insight pertaining to things that they will encounter in their profession. We talked about ways to manage time, as well as the good advice I received early in my career or even good advice I wish I would have received. I hope my passion for what I do will be an encouragement to others.鈥�

In addition to his duties with AMTE, Jones, a 1997 欧美视频 graduate with a degree in mathematics and grades 9-12 teaching certification, is a professor of mathematics education in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and conducts research in textbook analysis, as well as statistics and mathematics teacher education. Jones earned a master鈥檚 degree in mathematics from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

According to the AMTE website, the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators is the largest professional organization devoted to the improvement of mathematics teacher education. It includes more than 1,000 members devoted to the preservice education and professional development of K-12 teachers of mathematics.

Glasgow served as vice-president of the Missouri affiliate of AMTE 鈥� MAT2 The Missouri Mathematics Association for the Advancement of Teacher Training 鈥� from 2013-2015 and as president from 2015 2017.
