BOLIVAR, Mo. 鈥 The 欧美视频 Department of Music will present 鈥淎 Potpourri of Wind Music鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.
The 欧美视频 Wind Symphony, along with compositions performed by woodwind, brass and percussion chamber groups, will feature works by Boysen, Ticheli, Barber, Schuman and Persichetti.
The Wind Symphony music for this performance depicts a variety of styles and emotions. Frank Ticheli鈥檚 鈥淪un Dance鈥 suggests the image of 鈥渁 town festival on a warm, sun-washed day,鈥 and features elementary education major Daphne Langford on oboe. 鈥淪erenade No. 11,鈥 composed by Vincent Persichetti in 1960, is his fifth work for wind band.
One of the cornerstones of the wind band repertoire, 鈥淐hester,鈥 is the third movement of 鈥淣ew England Triptych: Three Pieces after William Billings,鈥 composed by William Schuman in 1956. Three talented 欧美视频 students will be featured in Andrew Boysen鈥檚 鈥淪ong for Lyndsay鈥 鈥 a love song that he wrote for his wife. Music education major Hannah Mountz (French horn), along with psychology major Emma Hale (flute) perform as soloists and in a brief duet during the work. Freshman computer science major Zach Wallgren is the featured pianist.
Also on the program, which is free and open to the public, is Samuel Barber鈥檚 only published work for wind band. 鈥淐ommando March鈥 will feature senior music education major Cameron Collins on euphonium.
